As a business consultant, I recognize that great leaders and poor leaders make a huge difference in shaping an organization's environment.
I remember sitting in my car outside a toxic organization during the early days of my career, where leadership was the main issue. I had to consider whether I could endure another day there, and ultimately, I couldn't. I decided to leave without securing a new job because the situation was that bad. I was considered a star employee by my peers, yet I chose to leave due to the detrimental leadership and culture.
I believed there had to be better opportunities where leadership leads positively and collaborates effectively with everyone, fostering a great culture. Remarkably, the same week I left, I was hired by a wonderful company with exceptional leaders who supported me and helped me grow into larger and increasingly important roles, including leadership positions.
My career has shown me that workplaces can thrive with strong, collaborative leaders who listen to their teams. As a leadership coach, I emphasize that happy employees can lower turnover rates and enhance creativity, making the workplace more enjoyable.
Having witnessed the clear differences between effective leaders and toxic organizations, I realized I needed to take action through my coaching and consulting work.
